WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

Businesses applying must satisfy all of the following:

  1. Registered in Ghana
  2. Resident and operates in Ghana
  3. In active operation for at least three continuous years prior to the awards
  4. Fulfill all tax obligations for the period – three continuous years prior to the awards
  5. Employ not less than 10 persons and not exceeding 250 employees
  6. Annual turnover from GH¢90,000.00 to GH¢45million
Other Requirements

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must complete and provide the following:

  1. Completed the award application form
  2. Submit copies of their Registration Certificate
  3. Attach a copy of their:
    • VAT Certificate
    • SSNIT Certificate
    • TAX Certificate (where applicable)
  4. A detailed Company Profile
  5. Hi-resolution Company Logo (PDF, JPG or PNG)
  6. Three (3) years Financial Reports
Participation Commitment

Participation Commitment

  • Adhere to all assessment procedures
  • Open their premises for award assessment personnel
  • Provide copies of their financial report in soft and hard copies
Note: This award is open to all SMEs and businesses per the award qualification requirements and eligibility criteria. It is NOT a condition for applicants to be members of, or belong to any SME or business Associations, Clubs or any other Body to participate.

How to Participate

Applicants or Participants are welcome to apply for any category of their choice once they meet the required application criteria.

  • Apply online or download application forms and send via entry@smeghanaawards.com
  • You may apply for more than one category using the same application form
  • All documents must be submitted in soft copy (PDF format) via email
  • Documents provided will not be returned – DO NOT submit original copies
  • Ensure all applications are submitted on or before the SPECIFIED CLOSING DATE

Judging Benchmark

SMEGA® uses both quantitative and qualitative benchmarks to determine the winners of the final awardees.

70% Quantitative Criteria

  • Net Operating Profit Before Tax
  • Annual Turnover
  • Growth in Operating Profit
  • Growth in Turnover
  • Return on Assets
  • Export Turnover (For Exporting Companies)
  • Investments in Capital/Training and Research & Development

30% Qualitative Criteria

  • Management Outlook
  • Major Innovations
  • Market Presence and Share
  • Information Technology Usage
  • Environmental, Sustainability, Governance (ESG) Activities
  • Export Activities

Pre-qualification

Self-Application, Invitation or Nomination

Complete an Online Application

Submission of an online application form and supporting documentation

Verification of All Documents

Screening and verification of information provided by applicant

Field Assessment by Independent Team

Compulsory face-to-face site audit at company’s grounds

Qualitative Judging

Shortlisted applicants vetted by independent jury and may be required to answer additional questions

Final Short Listing

Only final shortlisted potential awardees will be contacted

Announcement of Results

All final shortlisted applicants will be informed and required to sign acceptance of awards rules and regulations

SMEGA Night Ceremony

A ceremony will be held to celebrate the most deserving SMEs

Post-award Publicity

Disclosure

All information and the financial reports of participating companies will NOT be made public in order to preserve confidentiality. The independent authority will solely utilize operating profit and financial parameters to determine the best score using the patented SMEGA scoring system.

However, by submitting the Application Form, it is assumed that all participating SME enterprises have given their consent for the use of pertinent data and other numbers for research purposes.

All program decisions — including those pertaining to position, evaluation, and list publication — are final and made by the organizers.
